The Arizona Coyotes have kept one of their own under contract for at least another year. The team signed 24-year-old defenseman Juuso Valimaki to a $1 million, one-year contract extension, avoiding restricted free agency this summer, reports Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet. Valimaki had 12 points in 43 games with the Coyotes this season after being claimed off waivers from the Calgary Flames in October, per NHL.com. He was a first-round pick in 2017, but tore an ACL last year and missed the rest of the season. Valimaki is a big, strong, two-way defenseman. "He is a big, strong, two-way defenseman who has been a great addition to our defensive corps," Coyotes general manager Bill Armstrong said in a statement. "We look forward to having him on our roster next season."
