NHL playoffs 2018: Alex Ovechkin, Capitals 'to play hockey, not to pool...
Washington had already made one trip to Sin City to take on the expansion Golden Knights three weeks prior to January's All-Star Game (Vegas shutout Ovechkin's Capitals 3-0). The Golden Knights are 6-1 when playing at home during their 2018 playoff run, the only loss coming being in double overtime against the San Jose Sharks in the conference semifinals.

Stanley Cup Capsule
This team was considered weaker on paper than the past two years when Washington won the Presidents' Trophy and lost to the eventual Cup-champion Pittsburgh Penguins. The expansion Golden Knights have lost only three games through three rounds thanks to the play of goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury and the top line of Jonathan Marchessault, William Karlsson and Reilly Smith.

Capitals and Golden Knights are unlikely Stanley Cup rivals with unique connections
Before accepting that job, he had previously been general manager in Washington for 17 years, when he drafted key Capitals such as Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Nicklas Backstrom, John Carlson and Braden Holtby. Gambling with your money: Las Vegas and Washington, D.C., also are both cities in which your future can be at risk if people don’t play their cards right.

NHL playoffs 2018: Braden Holtby putting up sterling numbers (again) in a...
Things got so bad for Holtby he conceded the crease to backup Philipp Grubauer, who was between the pipes for Game 1 one of the first round when the Capitals opene up at home against the Columbus Blue Jackets. While the Capitals have struggled to get past the second round in Holtby's tenure in Washington, the one things that's been consistent is strong goaltending, and scoring from Alex Ovechkin.

Who will win the Stanley Cup: Golden Knights or Capitals?
The Vegas Golden Knights and Washington Capitals will face off for hockey's most treasured trophy after a postseason of clutch scores and huge hits. Vegas is riding a motley crew of rejected young guns and veterans, on the cusp of one of the most unheard of achievements ever: an expansion team winning the Stanley Cup Final.

Remembering the Caps' run to the 1998 Stanley Cup finals: 'Nobody wanted to play against us'
(Susan A. Walsh/AP) Olie Kolzig, still recovering from recent major hip surgery, planned to remain on the bench and in the background as Capitals players celebrated their Stanley Cup finals-clinching, Game 7 win over the Lightning on Wednesday at Tampa Bay’s Amalie Arena. Washington lost Game 3, 2-1, and Kolzig said the number of Red Wings fans in the lower bowl of MCI Center “was pretty disheartening.” Three days later, Detroit completed the sweep with a 4-1 win behind a pair of power play goals from Doug Brown.
