Track & Field Sends Five to Compete in NCAA West Prelims at Sac State
Competing at Sacramento State's Hornet Stadium will be Weslie Pearce (3000m steeple), Faith Makau (800m, 1500m), Tayler Fleming (long jump), Michael Kojin (200m) and Heinrich Van Niekerk (800m). Tayler Fleming will take on the field in the long jump, having qualified for the prelims with what was the conference's top mark at the time (20-4.50) at the Highlander Twilight on April 13.

Pearce and Fleming Capture Second Career Big West Championships

Her previous best had been 56.92.After a slow start, junior Emily Sanchez stormed back over the second half of the women's 10000m to take second place, recording an impressive mark of 36:58.36.The Highlander women head into Saturday in third-place with 39 team points.Throwers Lawrence O'Hara and Wesley Braddock finished second and third in the shot put, as O'Hara unleashed a lifetime best 16.98 on his sixth throw, while Braddock's best throw went 16.73.In the long jump, junior Ricky Wright Jr. took fifth with a leap of 24-3.50.Senior Michael Kojin qualified for the finals in both the 200m (21.46) and the 100m (10.73).Middle distance runners Heinrich Van Niekerk (1:53.90) and Ethan Van Setten (1:54.51) both qualified for the 800m finals.Freshman Quinn Williams qualified for the finals in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.62.The UCR men ended the day with 18 team points, good for seventh overall.

To highlight the rest of the action that took place on the women's side, senior Breanna Standifer finished second in the discus throw with a 47.74m/156-7.00 measurement, which allowed her to post up eight points to her team's score. In the men's distance events, sophomore Xolan Brown , senior Austin Goins , and junior James De Mello all moved forward in the 800 after placing in fourth, seventh, and ninth, resepctively.

Track & Field Travels to Steve Scott Invitational in Irvine
Kenady Jackson, Camille Deadwiler, Destiny Mitchell, Victoria Sandoval will take part in the first track event on Saturday with the 4x100 Relay. The Men's 4x100 Relay will embody Erik Cisneros, Michael Kojin, Nathan Noble, and Carlos Wedlow who have made the record books as well with their best time of 41.29 seconds a couple weeks ago at the Sac State Challenge.

WALNUT & AZUSA, Calif. – Coming off one of their best performances of the season as the hosts of last week's Highlander Twilight, the UC Riverside Track and Field Teams head out to participate at the Mt. Fleming nabbed the fourth Big West Women's Field Athlete of the Week award thanks to a conference-leading long jump of 20-04.50, which helped her win the event by nearly a foot and a half.

Kojin and Fleming Take Home Track & Field Athlete of the Week Honors
Seniors Michael Kojin and Tayler Fleming became the first Highlanders this season to take home conference athlete of the week honors on Tuesday, following exceptional performances at the Highlander Twilight on April 13.Kojin earns his first career Big West Track Athlete of the Week award after posting the Big West's top 200m time of 20.94 (+3.6w), finishing in third overall and qualifying for NCAA Regionals. The Santa Clarita, CA native also recorded a season-best time in the 100m Dash (10.64), a mark which ranks eighth in the conference.Finally, Kojin helped lead the way for UCR in the 4x100m Relay, as the Highlanders posted a season-best mark of 40.97 to take first place.Fleming wins her fourth career Big West Field Athlete of the Week honor thanks to a conference-leading Long Jump of 20-04.50.

Fleming, Men's 4x100m Take First at Sac State Mondo Team Challenge
The UC Riverside Track and Field Teams wrapped up a busy month of March at the Sacramento State Mondo Team Challenge on Saturday, resulting in big wins for junior Tayler Fleming in the long jump and for the Men's 4x100m Relay. "This was our first time at the Sac State Challenge and we were pleased with most of the outcomes," Head Coach Nate Browne said.

Kojin Sets School Record, UCR Defends Home Turf in Impressive Highlander Twilight Showing
The 4x100m Relay team of Kenady Jackson, Camille Deadwiler, Destiny Mitchelle and Sirai Thompson continued to shine, finishing first with a time of 47.37 seconds.
