Bruce Arthur: Celtics’ gains adds to Raptors’ pains
And instead of being a cocky shot-maker, J.R. Smith is back to being the soup-throwing goofball about whom, as he and ex-Raptor James Johnson chatted during a warmup before a playoff game two years ago, a sharp league observer wondered, “are they comparing how much money they’ve left on the table during their careers?” Dwane Casey was and is a deeply admirable man whose love of this city’s best qualities was beautiful, and who commanded the big strokes of the job in his peerless Raptors coaching career.

Dave Feschuk: Ujiri-Casey combo lasted longer than expected
Speaking about the road forward on the day he threw dirt on Dwane Casey’s run as the most successful coach in Raptors history, there were moments when the team president’s voice fluttered with tender emotion. One such heated back and forth came in the wake of Game 3 in Cleveland last week, after LeBron James’s coast-to-coast bank shot gave the Cavaliers the win at the buzzer.

Bruce Arthur: Raptors’ Ujiri says, ‘Put it on me.’
And after his Raptors were swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers, again, Ujiri flirted with the idea of firing his head coach. And then his 59-win team, which expected to play into late May or even June, was reduced to a laughingstock in another sweep against LeBron James.

Bruce Arthur: Raptors could put the blame on Dwane
“I think you’ve got to be able to change styles somewhat,” said point guard Kyle Lowry, who has had his own run-ins with Casey before the men reached detente in the past couple years. Some of the vaunted young bench — Jakob Poeltl, occasionally Delon Wright, the injured Fred VanVleet — couldn’t translate their regular season to the playoffs.

After another sweep, are major changes coming this offseason to the Raptors?
As far as blowing up the roster, it seems unlikely Ujiri wants to part ways with Toronto’s more promising young players, especially the ones on team friendly contracts, and it might not be easy moving some of the veterans with big money left on their deals. As of now, the Raptors have no cap space for major additions in free agency and are expected to be above the luxury tax line in total team salaries.

LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers sweep Toronto Raptors, advance to conference finals
LeBron James sent the Raptors into summer vacation for the third straight season as the Cavs completed another series sweep over the East’s top team with a 128-93 win in Game 4 on Monday night to advance to the conference finals for the fourth consecutive year. James finished with 29 points, 11 assists and spent some of the final 7:38 dancing near the bench during Cleveland’s 10th straight playoff win over Toronto, which changed its system, its roster and its approach but still can’t beat the game’s best player.

LeBroom: James, Cavs sweep Raptors to make conference finals
James finished with 29 points, 11 assists and spent some of the final 7:38 dancing near the bench during Cleveland's 10th straight playoff win over Toronto, which changed its system, its roster and its approach but still can't beat the game's best player. The contributions from Cleveland's supporting cast came two days after "Saturday Night Live" poked fun at the team in a skit entitled "The Other Cavaliers," which didn't air but went viral on social media.

In the NBA playoffs, teams quick to tinker with lineups
Golden State’s starting five on Sunday — some call it “The Death Lineup” because of how opponents tend to succumb against it, others prefer “Hamptons Five” because Curry, Thompson, Iguodala and Green were the players who went to the Hamptons two summers ago in an effort to lure Durant to the Warriors — was absolutely dominant. Toronto shook up its lineup in Game 3 on Saturday night by trying Fred VanVleet instead of Serge Ibaka, but the Raptors fell into the dreaded 3-0 series deficit when James made a running bank shot at the buzzer for the win.
