Track & Field - 5/16/2018 Vorgitch and Masedo Roll in Regular-Season Finale
Eagle Rock, Calif. – The LMU Track and Field teams ended their regular season on Saturday evening at the Occidental Invitational. Vorgitch will return for the Lions 2018 Cross Country season next fall but before then has aspirations of earning a spot for the opportunity to compete at the NCAA Championship Preliminary Round in the 10,000 meters.

The LMU men’s and women’s track & field teams split their squad on Friday night running at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto and the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival hosted by UCLA. Both meets assembled some of the nation’s elite distance talent with the hopes of establishing fast marks to qualify for the preliminary round of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

The 2016 men's squad has experience on its side with only three freshman and leaders in Koby Pederson and  Jack Polerecky back for their Junior seasons. The women, who placed third in the team standings at last year's Mark Covert Classic, return six of their top seven finishers from the 2016 WCC Championship.

Junior Alexis Gernhardt (Central Catholic HS, Lafayette, IN) will run her first season of cross country with the Lions after taking two years off following a high school career in Indiana. Returning Lions include sophomore Lara Del Rio, the 2002 high school Florida State 1600m champion, as well as team captains Trinity Amalfitano and Maria Degitz, both of whom were sidelined with injuries in 2002.
