GM says 'overwhelming likelihood' Suns will keep No. 1 pick
Born and raised in the Bahamas, the 7-foot-1 Ayton played his one college season just down Interstate 10 at the University of Arizona, where he averaged 20.1 points and 11.6 rebounds per game. McDonough said he believes questions about Ayton's defense stem from the fact he had to play alongside another 7-footer, Dusan Ristic, in college.

NBA Draft 2018: Suns GM says team is open to trading No. 1 pick
The Suns are expected to select either Arizona big man Deandre Ayton or Slovenian guard Luka Doncic if they do keep the pick. The Suns fired Earl Watson in late October after the team opened the season 0-3 and assistant Jay Triano finished the year as the interim coach.

Offseason Beat: NBA Coaching Carousel
Tyreke Evans and Mario Chalmers are the only rotation players headed to unrestricted free agency this summer, and Memphis has limited flexibility with Gasol, Mike Conley and Chandler Parsons owed a combined $78.7 million next season. Young guys like Malik Monk and Dwayne Bacon weren't given much room to grow until the bitter end of the season, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Frank Kaminsky failed to take another step forward, and persistent injuries dragged Charlotte down despite strong campaigns from Kemba Walker, Dwight Howard and Jeremy Lamb.

2018 NBA mock draft: Do the Suns go with DeAndre Ayton or Luka Doncic at No. 1?
But with the way the NBA is going, wing players are a premium asset and Doncic — who is very familiar with new Suns coach Igor Kokoskov from their time together with the Slovenian national team — would be an ideal partner for Phoenix’s rising star Devin Booker. But we’ll go with Smith, who shot up boards by helping Texas Tech make the Elite Eight this year and is young, long and athletic — much like Washington’s last first-round pick, Kelly Oubre Jr.

Draft Preview: Mock Draft, Volume One
The 6-foot-10 Carter was an incredibly tough matchup for opponents last season due to his combination of size, strength and athleticism, attributes that give him the ability to be an impact addition at the NBA level. McCollum he wouldn’t be in that kind of position in Portland, but Hutchison has the skill set needed to contribute (and a decent price tag) on a team that has to try to improve this offseason despite being hampered by some contracts that aren’t helping matters.

Roundup: Will Suns take Donicic or Deandre Ayton?
"Phoenix, the worst defensive team in the NBA, will be right to question Ayton's impact on that end of the floor, but his sheer productivity and overall talent level makes it difficult to not slot him at the top of this class." Why him: "Although Kokoskov won't be in charge of the pick, his presence in the room should give Phoenix's front office unique insight into the top European prospect in recent history.

The Phoenix Suns got what they earned: The top pick in the NBA draft
This will be the last year the draft is held under the current framework, with the team with the worst record having a 25 percent chance of winning the lottery, and the odds going down from there — as well as the top three spots being determined by the drawing of ping-pong balls. One of the legendary figures in the sport, West — now a consultant with the Clippers — was realistic about his situation, accurately pointing out in an interview on ESPN that he’s got an incredibly small chance of doing anything but walking out of Chicago with the 12th and 13th picks in this year’s draft.

Deandre Ayton or Luka Doncic? Suns have massive decision to make with No. 1 pick
CHICAGO – If the decision was up to Phoenix forward Josh Jackson, the Suns would take Arizona center Deandre Ayton with the No. Kokoskov has referred to Doncic as a "wunderkind," and as such, it’s impossible to ignore the Real Madrid product as a potential No.

Phoenix Suns receive NBA draft No. 1 overall pick
Josh Jackson, who just completed his rookie season with Phoenix, represented the Suns on the stage, for the public announcement of what was drawn in secret about an hour earlier. Only a handful of team representatives, NBA officials and media knew the outcome of the lottery before it was revealed publicly and they were all sequestered until the results were aired.

Becky Hammon should be an NBA head coach, Pau Gasol writes
The Spurs assistant coach made history in 2014 when Gregg Popovich hired her for his staff and again in 2015 when she led the franchise’s NBA Summer League team to the title in Las Vegas. I see it when guys like (Toronto Raptors all-star guard) DeMar (DeRozan) and Kevin (Love) are being vocal and open about emotional well-being … I see it when Adam Silver, our commissioner, is marching in an LGBTQ pride parade …I see it when MVPs like Steph (Curry) and LeBron (James) keep showing the world that nobody is too famous to use their platform to stand up for what they believe in ... and of course I see it when a franchise like the Bucks is willing to give an interview for their head-coaching vacancy to a candidate who — male or female — absolutely deserves it.”
