Pearce and Fleming Capture Second Career Big West Championships
She also joins Brenda Martinez (800m, 2008-10; 1500m, 2007-10) and Ashley Gatewood (Javelin, 2011-12) as the program's only repeat champions.Also taking home gold for the second time in her career was Fleming, whose long jump of 20-3.75 was good for the top Big West Championship mark in the last 11 years. Her previous best had been 56.92.After a slow start, junior Emily Sanchez stormed back over the second half of the women's 10000m to take second place, recording an impressive mark of 36:58.36.The Highlander women head into Saturday in third-place with 39 team points.Throwers Lawrence O'Hara and Wesley Braddock finished second and third in the shot put, as O'Hara unleashed a lifetime best 16.98 on his sixth throw, while Braddock's best throw went 16.73.In the long jump, junior Ricky Wright Jr. took fifth with a leap of 24-3.50.Senior Michael Kojin qualified for the finals in both the 200m (21.46) and the 100m (10.73).Middle distance runners Heinrich Van Niekerk (1:53.90) and Ethan Van Setten (1:54.51) both qualified for the 800m finals.Freshman Quinn Williams qualified for the finals in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.62.The UCR men ended the day with 18 team points, good for seventh overall.

Track & Field Travels to Steve Scott Invitational in Irvine
Kenady Jackson, Camille Deadwiler, Destiny Mitchell, Victoria Sandoval will take part in the first track event on Saturday with the 4x100 Relay. The Men's 4x100 Relay will embody Erik Cisneros, Michael Kojin, Nathan Noble, and Carlos Wedlow who have made the record books as well with their best time of 41.29 seconds a couple weeks ago at the Sac State Challenge.

Track and Field Hosts Final Home Meet Highlander Twilight on Friday
With the exception of Thompson, this is the same Highlander team that set the all-time program record in the 4x200 Relay (1:38.46), also coming in UCR's last home meet. Aidan Olvera will be UCR's only competitor in the Men's Pole Vault, and he will be joined by Jose Castellon in the Javelin Throw.

UCR Indoor Track & Field Lands 15 Student-Athletes on MPSF All-Academic Team
On Wednesday, the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation announced the 2018 All-Academic MPSF Scholar-Athletes selections for the men's and women's indoor track and field season, recognizing 15 student-athletes from UC Riverside.The women's indoor track and field team excelled in having 10 student-athletes receive recognition. On the men's side, UCR contributed with five Highlanders' earning All-Academic selections.Eligibility for the All-Academic Team requires that the student must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA, be at least a sophomore academically, complete one full academic year at the institution prior to the season for which the award is being received, and compete in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.UC Riverside's 15 All-Academic honorees are a significant increase from last year, when 11 Highlanders were named to the 2017 MPSF All-Academic Team.The 15 Highlanders to receive recognition following the 2018 All-Academic MPSF Scholar Athletes are listed below.

Women's Track Distance Runners Represent Highlanders at Stanford Invitational
The Highlanders' distance runners represented UC Riverside Track and Field at the Stanford Invitational on Friday.Senior Weslie Pearce took second out of ten runners in her Women's 3000m Steeplechase heat with a time of 10:29.50. That was less than six seconds shy of her program record, set last year.Finishing with the Highlanders' fastest 1500m Run time of the season was senior Faith Makau, whose mark of 4:30.00 bested her previous season-best of 4:34.94, set at the UCSB/Cal Poly Meet earlier this month.In her outdoor season debut, junior Emily Sanchez finished in 14th out of 21 contestants in the Women's 5000m Run, recording a time of 17:30.85.Tomorrow, Makau will return to action in the 800m at the Sacramento State Mondo Team Challenge along with the majority of the Highlanders' forces.

Kojin Sets School Record, UCR Defends Home Turf in Impressive Highlander Twilight Showing
The 4x100m Relay team of Kenady Jackson, Camille Deadwiler, Destiny Mitchelle and Sirai Thompson continued to shine, finishing first with a time of 47.37 seconds. UC Riverside swept the medal stand in the Hammer Throw, as Jessica Tobias (48.57m, 159-04), Ashley Rodriguez (47.73m, 156-07) and Tori Teraji (46.93m, 154-00) went one-two-and-three.
