Justify back to Louisville to prepare for Belmont, Triple Crown run
BALTIMORE – The morning after Justify put himself in the running for a second Triple Crown in four years, trainer Bob Baffert was in a joking mood Sunday at Pimlico Race Course. It was a reference to two Sundays ago at Churchill Downs, where Justify had just won the Kentucky Derby and showed signs of a minor foot bruise after stepping onto a pile of gravel outside his barn.

Belmont distance, fatigue test Justify in Triple Crown bid
Baffert, who had three near-misses with Silver Charm, Real Quiet and War Emblem before American Pharoah broke the 37-year Triple Crown drought in 2015, said Justify is built to power through the fatigue caused by running on the slop twice against high-caliber competition. As gassed as Justify looked at the wire in the Preakness , jockey Mike Smith is convinced the undefeated colt could have run longer and picked up the pace if asked.

Justify's Preakness win raises more questions heading into Belmont
Silver Charm, Baffert’s first Derby-Preakness winner back in 1997, finally showed the wear and tear of a tough campaign after gutting it out against Captain Bodgit and Free House in the first two legs and faded to a well-beaten second in the 1 1/2-mile Belmont. Despite Good Magic pressuring him all the way around, some will point to the moderate fractions in the Preakness (47.19 seconds for a half-mile, 1:11.42 for six furlongs) and see holding on for dear life to beat Bravazo as an ominous sign for the Belmont.

Preakness 2018: Justify wins race, keeping Triple Crown bid alive
The heavy 2-5 favorite jumped out to the lead, surrendered it briefly to Good Magic and roared back, holding off several hard-charging challengers to win the Preakness through a cloud of fog on a sloppy, slippery track Saturday. Justify showed no ill effects from a bruised heel on his left hind foot that was discovered in the aftermath of the Derby, an injury Baffert insisted was minor and over within 24 hours.

Watch replay as Justify wins Preakness in the mud, fog
The Preakness victory ensures trainer Bob Baffert will have his second Triple Crown contender in four years after American Pharoah's historic run in 2015. The victory also gives Baffert 14 wins in Triple Crown races, tying him with D. Wayne Lukas for most all time.

Justify wins foggy Preakness, keeps Triple Crown bid alive
BALTIMORE — Justify emerged from the fog and sloshed his way to another victory, holding off several hard-charging challengers to win the Preakness on Saturday and keep alive the chance for trainer Bob Baffert’s second Triple Crown champion in four years. Trained by Bob Baffert, the lightly raced chestnut colt was impressive in winning the Santa Anita Derby by three lengths over highly rated Bolt d'Oro and was the No.

Rainy Preakness day turns off bettors, could hurt track bottom line
BALTIMORE — Though the rain stopped at least for a bit on Saturday afternoon, the Preakness is still likely going to be run in muddy or sloppy conditions with another line of showers expected to move through at some point before the race. Five straight days of rain around the Baltimore area has put a strain on the Pimlico racing surface, but Tim Ritvo, the chief operating officer of the Stronach Group, praised track superintendent Chris Bosley for keeping the dirt course safe and fair.

Preakness Stakes 2018: Everything you need to know
The chestnut colt is such an overwhelming favorite that it seems like ages ago that people were questioning whether Justify owned enough race experience to win the Kentucky Derby. Picks and handicapping: Justify showed in the Run for the Roses that he can dominate on a sloppy track, and if he can replicate that speed in what should be terrible conditions at Pimlico Race Course he is going to be tough to beat.
