Reinstated 49ers LB Reuben Foster's marijuana case dismissed; NFL still investigating
Linebacker Reuben Foster, reinstated Wednesday by the 49ers after a judge dismissed the domestic violence charges against him in California, cleared another, albeit more minor, legal hurdle Friday. Niners GM John Lynch, in announcing Foster's reinstatement Wednesday, said the team would continue to monitor a misdemeanor gun charge that has not been ruled upon as of yet.

Seahawks' Baldwin says NFL "really missed it" with policy
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin had harsh words for the comments made by President Donald Trump regarding the NFL's new national anthem policy on Thursday, as players began to process the new mandate from the league's owners. He spoke passionately after the Seahawks concluded their offseason workout and sounded offended by the president's comments to "Fox & Friends" in an interview that aired Thursday saying, "maybe you shouldn't be in the country" if you don't stand for the anthem.

Football stymied by #24 CSU-Pueblo Saturday, 31-10
The Dixie State football team dropped its home finale to Colorado State-Pueblo on Saturday, falling 31-10 at Legend Solar Stadium on Senior Day. Yergensen (St. George, Utah/Desert Hills HS) made certain the Trailblazers didn't go without points on the drive and converted a career-long 40-yard field goal to cut the lead to 10-3 with 2:23 remaining in the opening period.

The other controversy: NFL's use of helmet rule actually rooted in logic
For a league that flirted with disaster last season when Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier suffered a devastating spine injury as the result of a poorly formed tackle attempt, such a rule change arguably was vital. The official language of the rule states that “it is a (15-yard) foul if a player lowers his head to initiate and make contact with his helmet against an opponent.” The NFL also implemented ejection standards for egregious violations.

NFL players, coaches grapple with new anthem policy
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Seahawks coach Pete Carroll wanted to be talking about football matters — Seattle's recommitment to the run game, the addition of two new coordinators, almost anything to do with what happens between the lines. Players wishing to continue demonstrations like the kneeling movement sparked by Colin Kaepernick to protest social injustice will be allowed to remain in the locker room during the anthem.

NFL teams under no time pressure to form own anthem policies
The NFL gave teams the option of developing their own workplace rules, which many players interpreted as a backhanded way of subjecting them to fines, suspensions or loss of jobs should they carry on with the protests. Their words and actions have demonstrated not only that they have a great deal of respect for our country, but also that they are committed to finding productive ways to fight social injustice, poverty and other societal issues that are important to all of us.
